A Spacious Beach with Fine White Sand and Shallow Water
One of Kirara Beach’s greatest attractions is its wide stretch of fine white sand and gently sloping, shallow waters. The waves are generally calm, and the shallow sea makes it a comfortable place for families with young children to enjoy swimming and playing by the water.
Large tetrapods have been installed offshore, and the water remains shallow enough for adults to walk toward them. The sandy beach is also regularly cleaned using large beach-cleaning equipment, helping maintain a pleasant and comfortable environment for visitors.
During the swimming season, members of the local Kirara Lifesaving Club help monitor the beach and maintain safety. Their presence provides additional peace of mind for visitors enjoying the sea.
A Spectacular Sunset Selected as One of Japan’s Best
If you visit Kirara Beach, be sure to stay until sunset. The sun slowly sinks toward the horizon over the Sea of Japan, turning the sky and water shades of orange and crimson and creating a breathtaking coastal panorama.
The sunset seen from Taki is highly regarded as one of Japan’s outstanding sunset landscapes and has been selected as one of the “100 Best Sunsets in Japan.” Around sunset, visitors often gather along the shore to watch the colors of the sky and sea gradually change.
The beach has a different atmosphere depending on the time of day. During daylight hours, the cobalt-blue sea creates a refreshing seaside landscape, while in the evening, the water takes on warm golden and reddish hues. This changing scenery is one of Kirara Beach’s special charms.
Lucky Visitors May Spot Wild Dolphins
From spring through autumn, wild dolphins sometimes appear in the waters offshore. Visitors may occasionally see their dorsal fins breaking the surface or even catch a glimpse of them leaping from the sea.
Because they are wild animals, sightings are never guaranteed. However, encountering dolphins while looking out across the beautiful Sea of Japan can be an unforgettable and wonderfully lucky moment.
Convenient Facilities During the Summer Swimming Season
Beach House and Refreshments
During the summer swimming season, a beach house operates on the shore. It generally opens from around mid-July until just after the Obon holiday period in August, with opening hours of approximately 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The beach house serves casual foods such as yakisoba, grilled sausages, and shaved ice, making it easy to grab a snack or light meal during a day at the beach. Drinks such as oolong tea and non-alcoholic beer are also available.
Beach umbrellas can be rented, and swimming and beach goods are available for purchase, making it possible to enjoy the beach even without bringing everything with you.
Relax in a Traditional Beach Seating Area
Kirara Beach also has raised beach seating areas where visitors can take a break from the sun while enjoying the seaside scenery. Each section is approximately the size of three traditional tatami mats and can accommodate around five to six adults, making it suitable for families and groups.
These spaces are useful not only as a place to rest between swims but also as a comfortable spot for simply sitting back and enjoying the view of the Sea of Japan.
Facilities for a Comfortable Beach Day
The beach is equipped with a range of facilities designed for visitors’ convenience. These include hot-water showers, free changing rooms, flush toilets, and foot-washing areas.
The hot-water showers are available separately for men and women and cost 300 yen for three minutes. Changing rooms are free to use, making it easy to change clothes before or after swimming.
A free parking area exclusively for beachgoers can accommodate approximately 230 vehicles. A dedicated tunnel provides safe access between the parking area and the beach.
Roadside Station Kirara Taki – A Popular Seaside Rest Stop
Adjacent to Kirara Beach is Roadside Station Kirara Taki, a popular stop along National Route 9. Its distinctive Nordic-style brick building stands on a hill overlooking the sea and has an appearance reminiscent of a building from another country.
The roadside station includes tourist information, rest areas, shops, and restaurants. Its glass-walled seaside rest area offers an expansive view of the Sea of Japan, making it an ideal place to relax during a drive.
Local Specialty Products Featuring Taki Figs
Taki Town is well known for its figs, and the shop at the roadside station offers a wide variety of products made with this local specialty. Around 50 different fig products are available, including jam, dried figs, and sweets, making them popular souvenirs.
Among the favorites are fig soft-serve ice cream and fig-based sweets. Enjoying a sweet treat while looking out over the sea is a memorable way to experience the flavors of Taki.
Local Food and a Casual Food Court
The food court at Roadside Station Kirara Taki offers a variety of local dishes. One of the most popular specialties is Izumo Seafood Takoyaki, a regional variation of the classic Japanese snack.
Instead of containing only octopus, these takoyaki are filled with octopus, shrimp, and scallops. They are crisp and fragrant on the outside, soft and creamy inside, and packed with the flavor of fresh seafood.
The food court also serves seafood rice bowls made with fresh local catches, as well as ramen and café-style dishes. It is a convenient place to stop for a meal during a sightseeing trip or coastal drive.

The open-air baths provide views of the surrounding scenery and, depending on the season and time of day, the sunset over the Sea of Japan. After swimming at Kirara Beach, soaking in the hot spring is a relaxing way to end the day.
A Seaside Destination for Enjoying the Best of the Sea of Japan
Kirara Beach combines beautiful coastal scenery, shallow waters suitable for swimming, and spectacular sunsets over the Sea of Japan. With a roadside station, accommodation, hot spring, and marine wellness facility nearby, the area offers plenty to enjoy beyond simply spending time on the beach.
