Nagumi Cape extends across a distinctive lava plateau formed by volcanic activity. The area features alkaline quartz trachyte associated with Mount Yokoo, an ancient volcanic vent, creating a landscape that reveals the powerful geological forces that shaped the Oki Islands.
From the observation area, visitors can enjoy a sweeping panorama of the Sea of Japan. On clear days, the islands of Dōzen, the group of islands to the west of Dōgo Island, can also be seen on the horizon. A Historic Lighthouse and Scenic Walking Trail
A lighthouse was installed at Nagumi Cape in 1963 and continues to serve as a guide for vessels navigating the surrounding waters. The lighthouse is part of the cape’s distinctive scenery and reflects the area’s long connection with maritime travel.
Near the observation area, visitors can also find a stone lantern that served as an old lighthouse. In the past, lights were lit here to guide ships, providing a fascinating glimpse into how sailors navigated these waters before the modern lighthouse was established.
In 1986, a parking area and walking trails were developed around the cape, making it easier for visitors to explore the landscape on foot. The trails offer opportunities to enjoy the sea breeze while taking in different views of the coastline and surrounding islands.

Nagumi Cape is also known as one of the best places on the Oki Islands to watch the sunset. As the sun sinks toward the horizon, the islands of Dōzen appear as silhouettes against the changing colors of the sky, creating a memorable and romantic coastal scene.
Walking along the trail, visitors can feel the refreshing sea breeze and look down toward the waters below. Depending on the season, you may also encounter cattle grazing peacefully in the surrounding fields, adding a relaxed pastoral atmosphere to the dramatic coastal landscape.

A parking area and observation facilities are available, and visitors can enjoy the spectacular scenery without having to walk a long distance.
